If you’re here reading this, you’re likely somewhere on the spectrum of wanting out of your timeshare contract. On of the first things to do is draft a timeshare cancellation letter. We are here to help with that.
Either you’re fed up and have had enough of the annual costs or aren’t using it enough to warrant what you’re paying, or you’re wondering if there’s a way out at all and are just getting prepared in case you want to.
Getting out of a timeshare ownership contract is typically not very easy. Timeshare companies build their contracts to be very strict when it comes to selling or any kind of cancellation.
They know that many of their customers make the decision to buy a timeshare or get involved in a vacation club in an emotional setting, often triggered and prodded by an overaggressive salesperson.
They may get some value out of their purchase, but a lot of people come to know quickly that timeshare ownership is not for them.
So, what if that’s you? If you’re sitting there wondering how to get out of a timeshare contract, you’re in the right place.
One of the first things you need to do is write a timeshare cancellation letter.
This lets your timeshare provider know what your intentions are. The right letter conveys a strong message and hits on the right notes. It encourages the timeshare company into compliance.
These aren’t just any old letters. If you type out a timeshare cancellation letter on your own, unfortunately, it’s likely to end up in the trash somewhere, physical or digital.
However, working with a team of timeshare experts and lawyers can help you draft the perfect timeshare cancellation letter that lets them know you mean business.
Here is some information on the cancellation letter and some things you need to know before you get started with the process.

We often make impulsive choices that end up being a big mistake. Why should you be stuck in a contract that you don’t even want?
That’s where a bad timeshare cancellation letter becomes harmful. A bad letter will actually make it harder for you to cancel your contract. A good timeshare cancellation letter, on the other hand, will help a lot. An airtight, legally-strong letter won’t always guarantee cancellation (as that depends on the contract that you signed), but it will certainly increase your chances.
If you are missing something in your letter, including too much unnecessary information, or taking your time to get to the point – your cancellation process will likely take longer.
A good cancellation letter doesn’t have to be complex. In fact, it actually shouldn’t be. A good timeshare cancellation letter is simple and provides everything that a company needs in order for them to cancel your contract.
A good letter won’t be of any use if it’s not read. The later it is read, the later the timeshare company will be able to take action.
If you provide a clear subject line on your letter and envelope, the individual sorting letters will be able to tell which department your letter should go to straight away. You skip the queue and are closer to seeing results.
You can use “Timeshare Cancellation Request” as a subject line, for instance. Other clear subject lines include: “Timeshare Rescission Letter” and “Request to Cancel My Timeshare Contract.”
Stating that you want to cancel a contract will not cancel your contract unless the person on the other side knows what contract you are referring to.
You are not the only one that has a contract signed with that company. It’s also likely you’re not the only one writing a timeshare cancellation letter.
If you don’t provide information that helps them find your contract, then you’ll end up simply delay this entire process.
In the introduction, you need to state when you purchased your timeshare. You also need to provide the name of the timeshare along with order number and name. You aren’t the only one that purchased on that day.
This information is vital. Since letters don’t come in at the same time they are sent, not including even one piece of information could result in your cancellation being delayed by several days or weeks. This is especially true with bigger companies.
The company won’t know who you are and what timeshare you own until you provide all the details.
Insert your email address in your cancellation letter too. Provide all of this information because otherwise your cancellation might simply get delayed.
If this happens, you’ll end up stuck with the timeshare for longer than if you had simply done nothing.
Before you even include any of these, you need to be direct.

Don’t wait until the very end of your timeshare rescission letter to state that you want to cancel your contract. You need to know your purpose and let the company know straight away.
Don’t talk about the mistakes that company made for five paragraphs, only to mention that you would like to cancel at the end of your letter.
People tend to get confused by writing. Don’t make it any easier for them.
Based on WOBS research, 61% of readers find that what they read is unclear. If something is unclear, then it’s a lot harder to find out what the reader is seeking.
You won’t get results if you aren’t bold. If you use unconfident language, the timeshare company will notice and likely use it against you.
Words that aren’t confident need to go. “Could you perhaps cancel my timeshare” should not be used.
It doesn’t sound confident. Instead, try something like “I’m writing you a timeshare contract cancellation letter. Please rescind my contract immediately.”
Being bold does not mean that you have to be mean. It merely means that you need to be confident without being insulting.
“I would like to request an immediate cancellation of my timeshare contract.” That sounds confident. “Immediate” is used to add urgency and let the company know you mean business.
Don’t stop there. State that you request a full refund of your deposit. If you’d like a refund, but only mention that you want to cancel your contract, you simply won’t get a refund.
After stating that, it is also okay to provide reasons for why you want to cancel.
While you don’t always have to state the reasons behind your cancellation, it is often helpful. In some cases, it is even necessary to state why you’re canceling.
For example, you can write “I would like to request an immediate cancellation of my timeshare contract as I am not satisfied with the value you bring considering the costs.”
This letter shouldn’t include complex words that make you look smarter. It shouldn’t include long paragraphs to show that you have a lot to say.
It shouldn’t include long stories that don’t directly link to why you want to cancel your contract.
This letter should be simple. Make it as short as you can. That WOBS research mentioned earlier also highlights that 65% of writing is too long.
Think about how fast you can transmit information when writing this letter. Tailor your writing to suit this one need – cancellation of your timeshare contract.
That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t provide information. You should. Just limit the fluff.
And don’t forget to space out your writing. Don’t write everything in one big paragraph.
Without confirmation, you have no evidence that your contract is canceled. This can backfire down the road, when you eventually find out that your contract is valid.
Timeshare Cancellation Letter: Things Not to Do
It isn’t hard to write a timeshare cancellation letter. It’s simply about getting to the point while writing as little as possible.
A letter won’t always work due to the agreements in your contract. This is just the unfortunate truth.
If there was any misrepresentations that occurred when you bought your share, then there’s a chance that we can help you cancel it.
After reading this, you may think you’re fully-equipped to write your cancellation letter. Indeed, if that’s something you want to try, any owner is within their rights to do it.
However, you should remember that timeshare exit companies make their living advocating for timeshare owners and have sent thousands of these letters.
They know what works and what doesn’t. There is much less left up to chance.
They won’t say the wrong thing or leave you open to any risk when it comes to the cancellation process. Here are some of the benefits a professional letter offers.
Inside Knowledge – As we’ve already stated, timeshare exit companies send cancellation letters every day.
They know what the internal organization of timeshare provider companies look like and who is in charge. They can write the letter the correct way and make sure the right person reads it sooner rather than later.
They Know What’s Realistic – How do you know when asking for a full refund on your deposit is possible or when you should expect something to happen in response to your letter?
A professional timeshare exit company will know what’s realistic and what isn’t. Making unrealistic demands of your timeshare company can slow the process. You need to know what to ask for and when you should hear back.
They Know the Next Steps – Sometimes, written correctly, a timeshare cancellation letter will accomplish your goals. However, it’s not always that easy.
A professional team will know what to do when you don’t hear back from your company or they reject your request. They’ll have everything mapped out into an almost automatic process.
There won’t be any time spent sitting around wondering what to do. They can guide you from start to finish.
You’ve decided you want to cancel and know it starts with a cancellation letter.
How do you find the right service to work with? Choosing the right exit company will have a huge impact on how quickly things move and your odds of success.
Make sure you do the research necessary before hiring a team to ensure you make the right choice. Do things like reading online reviews, ask for a free consultation, etc.
See how long it takes a company to respond. That’s a good indication of how responsive they will be to you in the future once you’ve hired them.
With the right support, you can free yourself of your timeshare contract and start saving all of that money you’ve been sending them each year.
You can correct a past mistake and finally move forward. Wherever you are in your timeshare journey, talk to some companies today to hear from them what’s involved in the cancellation process.
They’ll listen to you about your situation and make suggestions on the best way forward.

PMG is not a resale, transfer, or donation company. We are consumer advocates—we help to negotiate the release of your timeshare contract obligation. We do not buy, sell, or rent your timeshare. Simply put, we help you to get out of your timeshare contract forever.
Usually less than 12 months, but it all depends on your situation. Let us help you. Speak to your advisor about the time, and what delays the resorts have put into place to prevent timeshare owners from departing their ownership. If you have a mortgage or past due maintenance fee, the process takes more time.
This is probably going to hurt, but whether you paid $5,000 or $50,000 for your timeshare, the IRS values all timeshares as worthless investments. In addition, that timeshare would have negative value due to the annual maintenance fee bill which compounds year after year. That is until PMG helps you cancel your timeshare.
Yes. Whether you bought your timeshare 20 days ago or 20 years ago, PMG has a solution for you and is here to help.
Yes! Permanently! GUARANTEED!
While we are able to recover money in rare cases, beware of any timeshare cancellation company that entices you with the promise of fund recovery. The truth is, the resorts are loath to give back the money they’ve already taken for timeshares.
Because most of our clients have had their trust betrayed by timeshare salespeople, we understand how some consumers can become a bit jaded. When you call us for a consultation, that’s exactly what you get, a consultation. At PMG, our job is not to sell you; our job is to help you get out of your timeshare. Which is why we have numerous 5-star reviews and an “A” (excellent) rating from the BCA.
We go above and beyond for our customers by helping to protect you, and have the best success rate in the industry, rated 5-stars by clients. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the best customer service in the industry. When you contact our company, you speak to a live person, not an automated system or voicemail. We offer a 100% money back guarantee, and we can provide documented proof of our success in helping customers just like you.
At PMG, we pride ourselves on our hands-on, boutique-style customer service, so every new client will work with our expert, experienced team whose job is to keep you in the loop throughout the entire cancellation process. We are always just a phone call away.
Not all timeshare experiences are created equal. Some are more complicated than others, and every situation is different. That’s why our trained timeshare elimination consultants will ask you a series of questions designed to determine exactly what needs to be done to terminate your timeshare, how long it will take, and how they can best advocate for you. We will always seek the most cost-effective route for you.
Canceling a timeshare contract is not a cookie cutter process. With each situation being unique, once you complete the form below an experienced consumer advocate will call you today to discuss your options.
