Tips To Stay Focused Working At Home
Over 80 million Americans could be working from home in late March or early April due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has certainly changed the way we do things in our day to day lives and it requires major adjustments for most of us. However, a slight bit of good news is that many positions have slowly been shifting towards working from home full time or at least part time. That being said, there are still some things you need to do to make sure that you remain productive.
Keep Your Schedule
If you are used to waking up at 7 am and eating lunch at 12:30 pm, then keep that schedule. Sleeping in will just cause you to start the day slower and fall behind in the morning. Also, make sure that you get some work done before 9 am. Waiting until 9 am may cause you to get distracted. By starting early, or the time you would usually leave for your commute to work, you are still being productive and by the time it’s 9 am, you’ve already gotten work done and feel accomplished.
Schedule Meetings
It’s important that you schedule meetings with coworkers and clients rather than randomly calling. Why? Because if you know that you have a call at 11 am, it means that you have to get work done faster to be ready for that call and to cover the time the call takes. If the calls are random, then they become excuses to fall behind on your schedule.
Rely On Email, Not Text
One of the most important tips when working from home is to avoid distractions. That includes making sure you are not on your phone all day. When it comes to communication, whether it’s with coworkers or clients, try to stick with email or direct messaging, not texting or talking on the phone. The act of picking up the phone can be a distraction itself and make you forget what you were supposed to get done.
Keep The TV Off
The biggest distraction when it comes to working from home is the television and it can cost you hours. Yes, you can have it on but try and give yourself an hour or two without it on, especially in the morning and right after lunch. These are the two times when you need to focus and get as much work done as possible.
Stick to these tips and working at home will not only be easy, but you will be productive throughout the day.
