One of the things people hate most about social media is vacation pictures. Not because they aren’t nice to look at but because they usually get posted while you are stuck at work. There you are, sitting at your desk, trying to figure out a problem at work and you decide to check out Instagram for a few minutes to take a mental break. Then you notice some pictures your friend posted, more like 40 of them, of their trip to a place you’d love to see. While you are stuck at work, your friends are enjoying their lives and traveling the globe. You feel jealous but not to worry, you have your chance to go on vacation and let everyone else hate you for your trip.
However, do not block your friends or delete your social media apps just yet. They can actually be a big help for you as you look to plan your vacation. Searching the locations, you are planning on visiting can give you a great idea of where to go. For example, let’s say you want to go to Key West, Florida and you’ve never been before. You can look for anyone who tagged themselves in Key West, whether or not they are friends of yours, and their locations and pictures will show up. Instagram is a great example because it allows you to search by places tagged and hashtags. You can see where the popular places are to visit and stay.
People will even tag businesses that offer the best deals and you can see other companies’ advertisements for Key West, so you know where to go if you want to rent a boat or where to eat. Social media really gives you a lot of insight into where you are traveling to and while you may not like to check out those photos and videos while you are at work, you should take advantage of them when you are planning your next trip.
Also, remember to post a status every now and then asking your friends for advice. You never know, maybe one of them has a friend or relative who can help you get a great deal on a flight, hotel or something else so that you can get more out of your experience or save some money on your trip. Social media is a great platform to gather information and the best part is that the people who are giving you this information are people just like you, not just companies who are advertising to get your business.
