Traveling tips for the Super Bowl and other major events
Traveling to a new city for a major event can be a lot of fun. However, it’s a lot different than just randomly traveling to a town or even a city that thrives in tourism because of theme parks and other attractions. A great example in South Florida is the Super Bowl which will take place in Miami in 2020. It’s a great event that will bring tens of thousands of visitors to an area that frequently sees plenty of tourists.
However, this time will be different as it’s the event, not the area, that inspires the travel. If you are planning on taking a trip to Miami for the Super Bowl, or any other town for a major event, there are some different rules you need to follow.
The first is to make sure you do not assume anything is taken care of or available. This includes your hotel reservations, tickets or anything else. Double check your hotel reservations and make sure that they email you a confirmation for your records. You want to have this because if you get there and they have a hard time finding your information, you’re not going to be able to find a place to stay in town, especially without paying a lot higher rates.
Also, if they or are staying in another area like Fort Lauderdale or even Boca Raton, do not assume that you can get someone to drive you to the stadium. Driving services will be booked solid that day as most people will avoid driving themselves and will need this type of assistance. Also, it’s more valuable for the drivers on these types of nights to do smaller or shorter routes than longer ones. If you need to rent a car, make sure you have that reserved early as well.
Pick some local places that you can get food at and anything else you may need. Have an idea of where you need to travel to before the big day. If you get there on Friday for example, spend some time driving around the area so that you’re more familiar with it because Sunday night everything will be hectic.
The important thing is to be patient and to remember that things will be a crazy that week with all the people. Plan on anything to take longer than it should and be smart about how much time you give yourself to do anything throughout the weekend.
