Try to earn rewards: If you can sign up for something with a store, hotel, attraction or restaurant that will give you rewards or points, do it. Look for low-traffic weeks and weekends: If you are traveling somewhere just to be there, rather than for a specific event, try to look at the calendar and see what’s going on during the time you want to visit. If there’s a major event in town then everything will be more expensive. However, if you can pick a weekend or week where there’s not a lot of people there, then you can find better deals.
Look at times, not just days: Flights are a great example as the ones in the early and later hours of the day are usually a little cheaper. If you are landing in a city in the morning, try carrying your luggage with you or doing an early check-in with your bags. The same works on the day you check out. The hotel will usually hold your bags for a half of a day and if you have a later flight it saves you having to pay for a full day.

Remember what the hotel is to you: Are you spending all day in the hotel or are you just using it to shower and sleep? If you are rarely going to be in it, then having the nicest one may not be that big a deal.
