The coronavirus pandemic or COVID-19 has altered our world like nothing else. War, terrorism, economic struggle, natural disasters and more have not impacted the world as much as this virus has and we are not out of it yet. With tens of millions of Americans at home and out of work or working from home, travel has become nearly non-existent. Most hotels and attractions are shut down and flights are seeing fewer than five passengers per flight. It’s truly a remarkable time to observe the changes that have been made to our society.
For those who own a timeshare, the news of the shutdowns and quarantines has created a bit of a concern. Many timeshare owners pay mortgages and losing out on their time as owners will cost them. If you own a resort in another state, traveling is going to be very difficult and that doesn’t even consider the possibility that the property may be closed. While you may technically own the property, it does not fall under the guidelines of remaining quarantined for most states so that will have to be discussed with your property manager. Here are some questions these owners are asking right now:
Can I use my timeshare during the coronavirus pandemic?
This comes down to the state your property is in, the state you live in and the regulations for traveling. Again, talking to the property management team is the only way to know for sure.
Can you switch your times?
Most properties are going to understand the challenges that people are facing right now and if you have been a loyal tenant and there are available times a few months from now, they should be willing to work with you.
Do you still have to pay your mortgage and fees?
Unfortunately, yes. Unless the property contacts you directly saying they will not charge you for the next month or two then you still have to pay the costs associated with ownership.
Can you rent out your time to someone else?
It goes back to the first question where it depends on the home state of the renter and the state the property is in. Each state has different rules right now based on how the virus has impacted them.
If you find that your timeshare company is not being reasonable with you at this time and you want out of the contract, you can contact Primo Management Group for further assistance, beginning with a free consultation to find out exactly what your options are.
