2020 presents a year and decade of hope and opportunity for many of us. However, when it comes to traveling and other expenses, it may also be the year where we skip traveling and tighten the belt. We can all do better when it comes to saving money but there are certain times of the year where the word budget becomes something we completely forget about. Vacation time is a great example of that and it’s something we need to take a deeper look into, especially for this upcoming year. If you usually spend $2,000 or more on your vacations for the year, then this may be a year for you to look into a staycation.
The term staycation is pretty obvious, it means that you will be home when you are off from work. While that doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, there are some advantages to doing it other than saving money.
Get some work done on your house: If you own your own home there’s a good chance that it needs some work. Maybe a new coat of paint, some cleaning, redo the landscaping or add new furniture. Yes, those things cost money, but they will be enjoyed far longer than a vacation would as you would enjoy your home every time you get back from work.
Check out the local scenes: Every day you see places on your way to work that you would like to try out. It can be a restaurant, a local park or something else. The problem, you never have time during the week and the place is usually closed on weekends on too crowded for you to enjoy. Now’s your chance to check it out.
No pressure to be productive: Want to sleep in, stay out late or something else? No worries, you can do what you want including binge watch those shows you’ve been putting off for months because you haven’t had the time.
See friends you do not have time to visit with: There is probably a long list of friends and family who live within an hour or two of your home who you do not get to see that often. Now is your chance to visit for the day and get in some quality time.
Again, we would all like to travel and visit places we only see online or on television. However, it’s never a bad idea to spend a year at home and enjoy some of the things you’ve missed out on or need to get done. Remember, your home is your largest investment each year so why not take some time to really enjoy it, especially if it helps you to save up for a bigger and better trip or something else you want in the upcoming years.
